A sketchbook traveller’s entry
Hampi feels like two landscapes sharing the same horizon: monumental ruins and great rounded boulders. I begin early while the stones are cool, then let curiosity lead me between temples, old market areas and quieter remains. Rather than racing to see everything, I choose a few places to understand properly.
A travel-vlogger’s story
Hampi feels like a landscape where history and geology have grown together. Huge rounded boulders rise above temple ruins, old market streets and the remains of royal buildings. I would start early, when the stone is still cool, and leave room to wander between the famous monuments and quieter corners. The celebrated stone chariot is worth seeing, but so are the traces of a once-busy city: places where traders, worshippers and residents moved through a thriving imperial capital.
Fascinating facts i can tell you of
- Hampi was a major centre of the Vijayanagara Empire, especially from the 14th to 16th centuries.
- The landscape is known for large granite boulders and rocky hills.
- The Vitthala Temple complex is famous for its stone chariot.
- Archaeological evidence points to thriving markets and long-distance trade.
My tips to travellers
Start early, carry water and sun protection, and allow time to explore beyond the most photographed monuments.
